3000 balas (2023-on going)

En el cementerio que hay frente a mi casa, rescaté de un contenedor de basura una colección de retratos. Estas fotografías habían formado parte de un memorial instalado sobre el antiguo muro del cementerio, donde casi 3.000 personas fueron fusiladas por la dictadura franquista en España.

Al observar las imágenes rescatadas, vi que la mayoría eran retratos de época. Sin embargo, un pequeño grupo mostraba únicamente un icono genérico: un retrato anónimo para representar a quienes no tienen foto.
Esa imagen-icono es el punto de partida de 3000 balas, un proyecto multidisciplinar concebido como un intento de reparación simbólica a través de la construcción de un memorial anónimo.

3000 balas (2023-on going)

In the cemetery across from my house, I rescued a collection of portraits from a trash container. These photographs had been part of a memorial installed on the old cemetery wall, where nearly 3000 people were shot by Franco's dictatorship in Spain.

Looking at the rescued images, I saw that most were period portraits. However, a small group showed only a generic icon: an anonymous portrait to represent those who have no photo. That iconic image is the starting point for 3000 balas, a multidisciplinary project conceived as an attempt at symbolic reparation through the construction of an anonymous memorial.
